Belle Epoque

Fashion, travel, vintage

Obviously I’m feeling very nostalgic for Paris. If you haven’t yet done so, please take yourself to a movie theater and see Woody Allen’s latest, Midnight in Paris. Absolutely amazing!

The Seine River

What’s not to love about Paris in the summer? Gardens, Wine and Cheese picnics, and wiling away the hours on one of Paris’s many bridges. I love this old picture of young revelers dancing the evening (night?) away along the Seine, showing just another great way the River and the Bridges over it bring such life to this amazing city. The New York Times just wrote a small article on the summertime tradition (since 2002) of beaches along the Seine! How amazing and ingenious! If there was ever one little thing missing from this city, it was the beach, and now you can find that there too. Instead of hitting up a beach snack shack though, you can head over to the Cafe de Flore for an afternoon snack!!

Really wish I were going on a trip this summer! Alas, work and money beckon.

La Bella Vita in Italia

Italy and I have a long and complicated history. I’ve lived there twice, experienced the utter beauty of the North and sad disrepair of the South, and found myself loving every minute of it. Italian culture, music, film, cuisine speak to me in a very powerfulway. So today, out of the blue, I decided to watch the 2000 film Pane e Tulipani (Bread and Tulips) about a housewife who, upon being forgotten by her family at a rest stop, takes a detour to Venice and embarks upon a new, far more interesting life. To compliment this romantic tour of Venezia, I stumbled upon an article about the Italian city Trieste on T Magazine’s Travel section. And so, I leave you with my recommendation to see Bread and Tulips and to soak in the complete beauty and quiet introspection of the following picture, courtesy of T Magazine’s blog.
